Even with little build up WWE Survivor Series 2018 still has alot of promise
This Sunday we have WWE survivor series and they are using the same format as last year. Champions will go head to head plus the traditional 5 man and women team matches for brand supremacy. I’m not going to beat around the bush because a lot has happened over the past couple of weeks that WWE can build on but will find a way to ruin it so let’s jump right in with some match predictions and thoughts.
Buddy Murphy retains Cruiserweight championship over Mustafa Ali
Women’s traditional 5 on 5 Elimination match- Team Raw (Mickie James, Tamina, Nia Jax, Natalya and Liv Morgan) over Team Smackdown (Asuka, Naomi, Carmella, Sonya Deville and TBA)
Tag Teams elimination match- Team Smackdown (The Usos, The New Day, Sanity, Anderson and Gallows and The Colon) over Team Raw (Bobby Roode and Gable, The Revival, The B Team, Lucha House Party, and The Ascension)
The Bar over AOP
Shinsuke Nakamura over Seth Rollins
Ronda Rousey over Charlotte Flair
Brock Lesnar over Daniel Bryan
Men’s Traditional 5 on 5 Elimination match- Team Smackdown (Shane McMahon, The Miz, Rey Mysterio, Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy) over Team Raw (Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, and Finn Balor)
*Match of the night
Hard to choose between the 2 but I’ll have to say either Buddy Murphy vs Mustafa Ali or Nakamura vs Rollins
Thoughts from a Fan
Even though this was really mashed together because they have exerted all their energy into the glorified house show, WWE has put together a card that will definitely be better than Crown Jewel(seriously that show sucked). Following a similar format from last year with such a short time window to build for this PPV was a very smart idea but just like other fans in sad that we won’t get Becky vs Rousey as that feud was excellent in a short time frame and well worthy of being the main event of Survivor Series but WWE seem to have bigger plans for these 2 superstars (*HINT HINT WM35).
With our without this format I think it’s pretty clear now that Smackdown is definitely the A show of WWE as their shows have been more entertaining than Raw for the longest. Without intentionally trying to and just picking based on what I think will go down I have Smackdown walking away 4-3 to take bragging rights in this year’s Survivor Series games (seems more like a game).
Raw is in turmoil. Roman is gone, the shield are done and Corbin is bad as a general major more than anything else he is in WWE. With all that and more I can see Raw self-sabotaging this event and lead to a storyline to find a GM well suited for the chaos who can bring balance to Raw and hopefully higher ratings(I’ll explain more on my post of things that could happen).
There are a lot of interesting matches on this card including Charlotte vs Ronda Rousey that will definitely be a test for Rousey as a wrestler. My one concern is Daniel Bryan facing Lesnar. I know WWE probably switched it up because they felt like we wouldn’t want to see a repeat of last year but that match was one of the only matches I enjoyed from Brock Lesnars title reign. The attention won’t really be on that match as Daniel Bryan’s heel turn will be the dynamic that will draw people in while Becky recovers but for the sake of his health I don’t like the match. Brock is a dangerous worker and I know Daniel Bryan has said in the past he wanted a match with Lesnar but be careful what you wish for.
WWE Survivor Series will be live this Sunday from Los Angeles, CA on the WWE Network. The kickoff show will being at 5pm ET with the show starting 2 hours later at 7pm ET. Crown Jewel will give you every reason to ignore this show and I don’t blame you. WWE is putting more energy into house shows than their main shows but this is the time of year where a lot can happen and story lines begin to be built working towards WrestleMania. If you can take the risk I say watch it and just remember it can’t get know worst that WWE Crown Jewel.
