Dont hit the snooze but on these 5 NFL sleepers in 2018
We are one week away from the kick off of the regular season and everyone is picking there teams to make runs this season. We all have to love teams that every one else sleeps on AKA the NFL Sleepers. I have 5 NFL Sleepers that can make some serious noise in 2018.
The Bengals may finally be able to return to their glory days with a good offseason they put together. They added some depth to the front line that will benefit both Andy Dalton and their promising 2nd year RB Joe Mixon. One of the best things that they have going for them is that they didn’t lose any significant pieces to their team during the offseason and while their offense could be one of the league’s highest scoring offenses they have a good defense as well.
They are stacked on the defensive side of the ball. Their front 7 looks like one of the best in the league with Carl Dunlap and Carl Lawson (guy had 8.5 sacks as a rookie and only started 1 game). Geno Atkins can still terrorize O-Lines and QB’s plus they have a good LB core. Their secondary isn’t that bad either I might add. The AFC North is owned by the Steelers right now and the Browns seem to be on the rise but don’t doubt this team from getting into the playoff picture as well.
I know it’s just the preseason but the Ravens are looking pretty good. This is definitely a make or break year for Joe Flacco as Lamar Jackson is gunning for the starting job in Baltimore. Last season they really didn’t have any weapons but now they have some depth at the WR position to go on with a running game. The spent big money on Michael Crabtree (man rarely drops a pass), Willie Snead, and John Brown with gives them some speed and versatility in the passing game.
CJ Mosely is probably the best MLB in the game but besides that the Ravens defense hasn’t changed over the years. They have a hungry front 7 that can get to the ball and a very stingy secondary that will maul you and force turnovers. The AFC north will be competitive this year but if this team can be consistent they can place 2nd in the division at best and make a run at the playoffs.
The Broncos finally have a reliable QB who is out to prove that last season wasn’t just a onetime thing. Offensively that was really the missing piece. The offense has weapons in all areas; they just didn’t have a guy that could get the ball to them.
Defensively the secondary will probably suffer with a key lose at CB but the front 7 will be dominant as the Broncos used their 1st round draft pick to snag Bradley Chubb who will compliment Von Miller very well. In my eyes the AFC West is the Chargers to take. But in reality its wide open. All 4 of these teams can win the division and make a playoff run and the Broncos will definitely be in the mix.
I’m not a band wagon. I’m a diehard Colts fan but I was seriously excited about all the improvements the Bears made in the offseason. They added an offensive Guru in Matt Nagy who will help shape and mold Mitchell Trubisky into a top tier QB and on top of all that they gave him a serious arsenal of weapons to utilize. They added Allen Robinson, Tony Gabriel, and Trey Burton to their receiving core and all 3 of these guys will make an immediate impact. Plus we cannot forget the 2 headed monster in the back field with Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen.
Their defense was top 10 in the league last year and they add Roquan Smith to the mix. The only downside for this team is that they are in the same division as the Packers and Vikings but with the moves they have made they can make some noise in this division and the NFC as they are inching closer to win now mode.
Arizona is destined to be better than they were last year. They improved their offensive line, signed a solid QB in Sam Bradford. We can’t forget about drafting Josh Rosen either who is looking like the franchise quarterback for years to come. David Johnson is coming back to wreak havoc on the league and Larry Fitzgerald continues for beat father time and produce at a super high level.
The defense is looking to redeem themselves and play at top level like they did not long ago. I preach consistency as that’s really the key to a lot of these teams who we deem sleepers. The NFC west is could witness all 4 of these teams battling for that division championship but if the Cardinals offense performs at a high level they may be able to dethrone the Rams and win this division.
