5-11 Record in 2017
The Bears haven’t been good in a while. Ever since the core of the defense lead by Brian Urlacher,Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman and others of a core dominant defense retired the defense hasn’t been quite the same but its also been a bigger struggle on offense, the Jay Cutler era was mediocre for the most part and towards the end bears fans coudnt wait to get rid of him.
This very storied proud franchise that has been in complete rebuilding mode the last couple of seasons but i think they are ready to finally turn it around. Head Coach John Fox was fired after being given a tough task to rebuild from scratch last season.
First of all they finally have their Franchise Quarterback in Mitch Trubiski. The Bears moved up one spot in the 2017 draft by giving up some draft picks which left many scratching their heads but i say if you like someone you go get him despite the price, it didnt work out to well on the field but to be fair he had literally no wide receivers to throw to and was thrown into the fire after free agent bust Mike Glennon failed to settle the position.
This season they have added perhaps the best free agent wide receiver on the market in Allen Robinson finally giving them a go to guy which they havent in forever while also adding speedster Taylor Gabriel, if they can get anything out of wide receiver Kevin White that would be a bonus but hes been injured all 3 seasons since being drafted with the 7th overall pick so i wouldn’t count on it but he can be a great player if he can stay on the field and that would give them a trio of good options for the young Quarterback although they may need to address the Tight End position with Zach Miller suffering a horrible leg injury last season.
They also have underrated Running Back Jordan Howard and exciting young slash player Tarek Coen in the back field who can run, catch and return kicks, a good player to compare him to is Darren Sproles, Jordan Howard has been one of the NFLS most productive running backs since he came into the league in 2016 and has rushed for over 1000 yards in his first two seasons and with the new options on the outside he should see less stacked boxes at the line of scrimmage which will help him even more.
Check out the exciting rookie from last season although he was ruled out of bounds at some point the bears can look forward to more plays like this from Tarek Coen this year
Another factor is bringing in new Head Coach Matt Nagy to run the offense. Normally i would say its a negative for any first year Head Coach but he comes from the Chiefs who have been a consistent winning program and he’s been long overdue for this job, he is an offensive genius who will really help out Mitch Trubiski and this offense. The defense has so many young players with potential and have played quite well under the radar and with help on the way from the offense i can see this team taking the next step.
Even though the offense has a chance to be special and explosive It would be a stretch to say they reach the playoffs this season as they play in a tough division with power house Minnesota Vikings and the Aaron Rodgers led packers but i can see them finishing 8-8 or 9-7 which would be a positive for them and the team is still very young so the next few seasons i expect them to get better as time goes on. Its been a while for Chicago but after years of rebuilding and head coaching changes since the Lovie Smith days but i think this team is ready to start its own new era.
