“My fight at UFC 217 was one of the greatest nights of my life but I now need to take some time to focus on my health.” St-Pierre said. “Out of respect to the athletes and the sport, I don’t want to hold up the division. I will be giving up my belt and once I’m healthy I look forward to working with the UFC to determine what’s next in my career.”
George St Pierre has relinquished his title shortly after winning it. In his first fight since 2013 GSP came back to take on Michael Bisping for the Middleweight title and won in his first fight in that weight class. There was news going out that GSP wasn’t even sure if he would have another fight as a middleweight and also Dana White reported that George was dealing with ulcerative colitis. This was something that Dana anticipated would keep GSP sidelined indefinitely.
This is the second time that GSP has relinquished his title and this time I really respect him for it. In this day and age in the UFC top stars like Conor McGregor will hold titles without even defending them plus we have had a lot of disappointments leading to titles being stripped and interim titles. I respect GSP for doing what he did and not holding up the division.
Robert Whittaker has been named the undisputed Middleweight champion of the UFC and he is set to take on Luke Rockhold at UFC221 in Perth, Australia on February 10th.

What do you think of GSP relinquishing the Middleweight title? Are you offended by his actions or disrespected?
